Since 1982 the CSI Club/SCLC has been meeting weekly to discuss current events in science. It is a hidden gem within the greater Pittsburgh community as the group has only twenty-eight members total. With a format that takes much of its inspiration from the popular book series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the club offers its members a `sparkling' and `giddy' experience in academic and social new discoveries. For example, the club recently discovered two artificial sweeteners in soft drinks. The searches were inspired by an examination of breast cancer cases and an extensive online search of bottles of soda. What we found was that the two sweeteners were being mixed directly with the nutrients and liquids in the bottles. Many of us now believe that there is a reason behind the large profits reaped by the soda industry in spite of the fact that sodas clearly are not one hundred percent healthy food. We also discovered that one of our own, a member, was a pioneer in the health department at the college. His research study was the reason first of the group's findings. We are excited about our findings and would like to invite you to join us at our next meeting which will chronicle our progress and discuss additional findings.
The purpose of the current project is to create a 3D Visualizer allowing the user to ``see'' the Earth from space. The project is being coded in Java and the server will host the software. The user must be a human being so that sound signals can be sent to ``calibrate'' the software for use with any set of pictures and sounds they select. The software also works as a virtual reality astronaut and gives a real experience of seeing the Earth as seen by a person millions of miles from our home planet. The current version is coded so that the user can select the view (imagery) of their choice. The Virtual View of the Earth is pictured below as if viewed from space by someone 200 million miles from the center of the Earth.
Sorting into one of two categories as they grow up in a one-student-to-one-teacher ratio, it is no surprise that a large number of youth pursue a higher education and colleges and universities become their choice for professional and academic needs. d2c66b5586
