Hugo and Tamara continue to meet frequently from their house. Tamara is often suspicious of Anna and Hugo and leaves early to avoid Anna and Hugo. When Hugo and Tamara quarrel, Anna tells Hugo that he must leave his grandmother and return to Santa Catarina. When he refuses, Anna confronts Hugo saying that he has become a boring bureaucrat. Anna tells Hugo that she is pregnant with his child. Hugo has trouble understanding the seriousness of Anna's statement and also refuses to believe that Anna is pregnant with his child. Anna senses that Hugo is leaving her and, although she doesn't accuse him of it, she implies that Hugo has had an affair. Hugo becomes agitated and immediately leaves Anna's apartment.
In a dream sequence, Hugo returns to Anna's apartment. Anna asks him why he returned and he states that, because of her, he is happy. Anna expresses her sadness and states that she passed this same grief on to Hugo when she became pregnant.
The captain of the ship that took Hugo back from his grandmother and that was to return Hugo to Anna tells her that, travelling by boat, they had a rough time attempting to bring snow to the coastal city from the mountains because the weather was so bad. The captain states that they rammed and hit another ship killing three people. The captain states that everyone on the other boat turned out to be rich, that they had not been sitting in the same place as everyone else, and that his rifle was jammed because he was shooting at the sky. d2c66b5586
