The issue with using an App on iPad is that you lose all the benefits of a control surface like the mouse. If you need to fiddle around editing a track then you can create an endless number of instrument presets by hitting a few buttons but the physical nature of a keyboard, mouse or virtual pad means that you have to reach for the item you want and its usually the same logical place every time. If you need to play a specific chord by pressing multiple buttons on the keyboard, the beat or chords position is necessarily different for every one of your instruments. This is especially true if you are using a metronome, as the standard metronome that appears on the iPad or Mac cannot be specified to show you a certain position on a keyboard.
It's not absolutely necessary to have the two halves of this project connected in the way that I have, but it does remove one of the major frustrations of V-Control Pro. In my world, the issues of getting the controller to work with my chosen audio interface are often enough to turn me off one of the project. This particular controller will make it easier and cheaper to work with a MacBook as well as the iPad, and in doing so, will make it more feasible for a whole host of audio gear to be used with the iPad in this way.
When I first saw the V-Control Pro board, I immediately thought they could have done a better job on the case, which is going to take a bit of work to finish it off. You may also like to see "V Control Pro" which is currently selling for just $22. d2c66b5586
